One Extra Strand, A Lot More Peace of Mind: The "Plus" Philosophy of JLN-3160

One Extra Strand, A Lot More Peace of Mind: The "Plus" Philosophy of JLN-3160

March 10, 2026

If you’ve spent any time managing a warehouse floor, you’ve definitely run into this exact dilemma:

You are staring at a packed carton. The contents aren't exactly lightweight, but they certainly aren't heavy-duty material either. If you seal it with your standard light-duty tape, there’s a nagging voice in your head saying, "Is that going to pop open when the courier tosses it?" But if you automatically upgrade to a premium, heavy-duty thick tape, your cost-per-package skyrockets. You are essentially using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, and that is just throwing money down the drain.

This awkward middle ground—the gray area between "light" and "heavy"—is where packaging budgets go to die. That is exactly why we designed the tape pictured here: the JLN-3160 Reinforced Water-Activated Tape. It is the perfect bridge over that gap.

The "Identical Twin" with a Hidden Secret

If you put the JLN-3160 next to our massively popular light-duty staple, the JLN-3150, you might think they are identical twins. From a distance, they are. They are both categorized as Light Duty tapes. They both use a secure, eco-friendly starch-based adhesive that "welds" to the carton. They both feature a reliable double-layer kraft paper backing.

But lean in closer and look at the grid pattern on the tape. The secret of the JLN-3160 lies entirely in the "density" of its fiberglass reinforcement.

From an engineering standpoint, we made a subtle but crucial addition without making the paper itself thicker. In the machine direction (longitudinally), we added one extra G110 fiberglass strand per 72mm width compared to the 3150 model. In the cross direction (those diagonal lines you see), we tightened the weave, utilizing a 4-strand G150 structure instead of the standard 3-strand.

What Does That Extra Strand Actually Mean on the Floor?

Do not underestimate what a few extra strands of fiberglass can do. In terms of physics, it massively boosts the tape's tensile strength and burst resistance.

When your packers inevitably squeeze one too many items into a box, causing the carton to bulge slightly and increasing the tension on the seal, that denser fiberglass grid acts like a high-tension safety net. It absorbs the stress. It prevents the seam from "popping" or splitting open when the box gets bounced around in the back of a delivery truck.

Who Should Be Using the JLN-3160?

If you run a general e-commerce fulfillment center where your package weights constantly fluctuate—say, one order is a couple of sweaters, and the next is three bottles of heavy shampoo—then the JLN-3160 is your ultimate "Goldilocks" tape. It is tough enough to handle those borderline overweight packages, yet it maintains the lightweight feel and handling of a standard tape, keeping your costs much more manageable than jumping to a true heavy-duty option.

In the logistics game, saving money isn't always about buying the cheapest consumable. It's about precisely matching the tool to the task. The JLN-3160 gives you that little extra ounce of toughness, allowing you to confidently seal those "in-between" boxes and ship them out with total peace of mind.
